There once was a duck with only one little red shoe. He wanted two things more than anything in the world. One of those things was a friend, but oh how he wanted his other little red shoe. He started walking with just one little red shoe and one bare and tender foot. Cobby had lost his little red shoe, but he did not know where. He thought about it and dreaded that someone crept up in the night and had stolen it away. Cobby was a lonely duck and he was so very depressed over his missing shoe.
He went out searching for a fairy and when he found her he ran towards her until she turned around to look at him. “Don't you know that ducks can only see one fairy in their life?” Cobby was so very excited and all his worries left him. Cobby looked up into her face "Oh Fairy, I am so glad to see you. You see I do not have a friend and I cannot find my little red shoe. Can you give me these things? please," he asked her, but she looked down at Cobby's bare foot and the dirt that sat to it and she looked sadly into the lonely face that was begging for her help "I can only give you one, you must choose one or the other."
"Oh no..." Said Cobby a tear escaping his eye and rolling down his face "I could never decide - I want them both so dearly!" The fairy flew down and landed on the soft green grass and looked at him from a little ways off "Cobby, do not be selfish. Choose one and I shall give it to you" Cobby looked up desperately fighting back the tears "I cannot" "Than you cannot have either" She said as she flew into the air just like the beautiful fairies do "In that case all I can do is to tell you that the evil queen has got your shoe and Cobby, no one wants to be your friend"
